Three police officers were found shot dead after being taken hostage at gunpoint by a woman and three of her sons, authorities said. Officers who went to the 32-story Bungalow Motel to execute a warrant for the arrest found four suspects who had surrendered, FBI agent Kenneth Walton said. The women and their sons were taken to Inkster Medical Center, where they will be held pending the charges, Walton said, according to an FBI statement. Police Chief James Buckley said the incident began when Dubiel and Hoover tried to obtain a warrant at about 6pm on Thursday.
Buckley said a search of the room found a handgun, two handguns, a shotgun, an AK-47 assault rifle and ammunition. He said that during the altercation, well over 20 shots were fired, with officers firing 20 to 25 shots in each room. The force has 45 members and there have been no fatalities since it was founded in 1927, Buckley said.
